Open House and Update

It was nice to meet many of you at our Open House Tuesday evening! I sent home my brochure with information about the grade 6 curriculum and expectation with the children of those who could not attend. If you missed it, you can view a copy here.

We are looking forward to cooler days so our portable becomes a little more bearable in the afternoons!

We have been working on:

-Using sketchnoting, or visual note-taking in various subjects. See the "sketchnote" tab on this blog for some video examples of sketchnotes.

-Electricity in Science. We are looking for unused or broken electronics to take apart in class to see how circuits work. If you have any that you are looking to dispose of, please send them my way! (Small electronic toys and devices, like fans or anything that lights up or make sounds are ideal)
Please don't send anything valuable or that you hope to get back, as we will be taking them apart.

-Reading and writing personal recounts (récit personnel) See our success criteria here.

-In grammar, we have reviewed personal pronouns (Je, Tu, Il/Elle/On, Nous, Vous, Ils/Elles) and have sketched "verbes infinitif" and how to conjugate verbs to use in a sentence. We will continue to work on this, and focus specifically on past tense verbs (imparfait and passé composé) for use in our recounts.

Upcoming Events:

-Tomorrow, Friday, September 23, is our annual Terry Fox Run. We are partnering up with Mme Villemaire and Mrs. Hall's kindergarten class for the event.

-Next Friday, September 30, the University of Ottawa Maker Mobile is visiting and offering two workshops, 3D printing and programming for grade 6 students. Students will be asked to contribute $5, and the school will cover the rest of the cost. Look for a note tomorrow.

Homework

We had our first visit to the school library today. Students each chose a French book and are expected to read it and then fill out a reading response for next Thursday. The response forms are posted on the "Devoirs" page of this blog. Paper copies are available for students who require them in cases of internet connectivity issues. Books are also due back to the library on the same day as homework is due. We will visit the library every second week. On alternate weeks, students will complete a writing assignment. Details to follow. See our class calendar embedded in this page for dates. Merci,

Mme Enright
